GPX GRand Prix FAQ

Entering

Q. How do I enter? There are two options OPTION 1 Enter using our partner website Racebest. Once you have entered your information will be put on the leaderboard and you will be allocated a number. Note this is not instantaneous as it is done manually. OPTION 2 Enter on Patreon. Patreon is a monthly subscription with options to be added to different tiers. They include a few extra perks detailed on Patreon.

Q. So Can I pay for each race? A. There are options to enter some races, but from the price of FROM £20.21 enter the series and you can enter as many races as you like! You get a race number to use for the whole season.

Q. How much does it cost? Starting at £20.21 The GPX Grand Prix is totally PAY WHAT YOU FEEL. We leave it up to you how much you want to pay. If you are unsure of how much you want to pay just consider that this is for 21+ races plus all the work that goes into keeping everything up to date. Part of this ethos is access and inclusivity and also means that those who pay more are more often than not covering the costs for those who cannot afford as much. It’s also worth considering how much you would pay to run a normal race, and because of this we believe that the cost of the GPX Grand Prix is a bargain, no matter what you pay!

RUNNING

Q. What shoes should I wear? It depends on the race, we will mention it on individual race pages. Also If any extra kit is required we will say so.

Q. Can I run with my dog? A. You can indeed! If you have a dog let us know and we will give them their own unique race number, Dogs have their own category on the leaderboard. Prizes for best in show! Please let us know each time you run with your dog, as we will just count you otherwise. Also if another person registered runs with your dog they can submit a time for them too!

Scoring

Q. How does the GPXGP work? A. You score points equivalent to your overall position on each race, the winner is the person with the lowest score. Your score is based on your top 10 lowest scores, your total overall score will be used to determine placing for anyone who has the same score as someone else.

Q. I turn X This year, do I enter a new Vet Catagory? A. No, you remain in the age category you entered with.

Q. I don’t have a watch, can I take part? You must have something in order to register your time ie: phone linked with Garmin connect or Strava etc. When submitting times it’s important for the fairness to all entrants that we have evidence of winners times etc. Get in touch if you are particularly techno-phobic.

Submitting Your Time

Q. So when can I start submitting times? A. As soon as you’re registered, so long as that particular race is open.

Q. What is the 48 hour rule? A. Times must be submitted within 48 hours of running an event. This stops mass submissions being made before races close. (It also prevents me from being up all night inputting data!)

Q. Once we've done a race and uploaded our time, can we replace it with a faster one at a later date? YES

Q. What happens if you do multiple attempts at the same race can you submit them all? Our form works one at a time. We ask that you only submit improved times. As it is only your best time that counts towards your score for each distance. Submitting a slower time could even override your previous time and lose you points.

Q. Does it count if the run is slightly too long or short? Unless there’s a vast anomaly not really, as long as you can provide proof that you ran the course. All GPXGP races have slightly different rules, some may indeed involve picking the shortest route between checkpoints.

Q. What if I submit a time for a race that has not opened yet? It will not count, sorry, Times can only be submitted for races that are open.

The Leaderboard

Q. I have submitted my time but it has not appeared? A. Entries are input manually on a regular basis, usually every 48 hours. If it has been a while and your time has been missed simply re enter the form.

Q. Something on the leaderboard / route map doesn’t look quite right? A. We’re only human, just let us know, we’ll get it sorted!

Q. Is there a T-Shirt? A. As of 2021 All entrants get to decide whether or not they would like to pay for for race merch. This was we can ensure no items go straight to waste.

COVID 19

Q. WHAT IF COVID-19 Restrictions change? A. These events are designed to be relatively flexible around the COVID19 Pandemic. Should restrictions change at any point we would ALWAYS encourage runners to follow the government guidelines at time of running over any information given by Great Owl Running.

Q. WHAT IF COVID-19 GOES AWAY? A. That would be nice wouldn’t it? In that case we will announce something!
