RACE FAQ

EVENT INFO

Q. What are the age restrictions to enter Great Owl Running Events?

Great Owl Running is a race company, affiliated to UK Athletics. We use TRA (part of UKA) licenses for our insurance and therefore all our races are governed by UKA rules where applicable to Trail racing. Age restrictions being one area we have asked UKA for clarity on the rules for, so we can abide by them.

Subject to satisfying HUE ‘Adventure Activity Licensing Regulations’ for youths under eighteen, the
maximum distances permitted for the following age groups are:

15 years & above 5 miles

16 years & above 10km

17 years & above Half Marathon distance

18 years & above Marathon distance

20 years & above Ultra distance

We know other organisations let different ages compete in their events but these are the rules we are governed by and we appreciate your understanding in adhering to them.

CANCELLATIONS / Transfers

Q. Can I have a refund? If it is less than 4 weeks to race day, your race entry fee will not be refundable under any circumstances. If it is still more than 4 weeks until race day, you may apply in writing for a refund, which will be subject to a refund processing charge (which varies depending on the original entry fee). Refund requests must be done via email only. Post race requests for refunds will be ignored. Note a transfer / cancellation fee is applicable to entrant.

Q. Can I transfer my place to someone else? Yes, you may transfer your race place to another participant. There is no charge for this service, but we will not process any number transfers that are requested later than 14 days prior to race day.

Q. Can I have a deferral? Yes, We are happy to defer your place to a future event. Where entry prices are dearer you will be expected to pay the difference; no partial refunds will be made for cheaper events. We will not process any deferrals that are requested less than 14 days prior to race day. Post race requests for deferrals will be ignored.

RUNNING

Q. What shoes should I wear? It depends on the race, we will mention it on individual race pages. Also If any extra kit is required we will say so.

Q. Can I run with my dog? You can, however we ask you to follow any advice set out by the race organiser, this will vary depending on the event. Runners with dogs must have their own insurance and waiver organiser responsibility as per the TRA UK rules.

Q. Are headphones allowed? Depends on event, but we’d encourage you not to; it really is better to hear your fellow runners, listen to your breathing, take in the atmosphere. But if you feel you just can’t run without them, headphones may be worn as long as you take responsibility for the volume to be low enough for you to hear all marshal instructions and the words of those around you. When approaching junctions or road crossings you may be instructed to remove them until it is safe to put them back in.

Q. I turn X This year, do I enter a new Vet Catagory? It depends on the date of the race, Racebest sort our vet categories for us on entry.

Q. Can someone else run in my number? Absolutely not. Your race number must not be given to another person. If you wish to transfer your place to another runner you must request a transfer. (see above)

Q. Where will I find my result? Results will be published on the race webpage and announced on our social media platforms. We send our preliminary results and allow runners a 24 hour window to make an enquiry if applicable. Final results are then published.

Prizes

Q. Do I get a medal? Not for Free, we offer medals as a paid extra upon entry. The option to purchase a medal will only be available up until one week before the event. Medals are made to order which allows us to eliminate waste.

Q. Is there a T-Shirt? Not for free, we do NOT provide race specific merchandise. Any merchandise is available separately.

Q. Are there prizes? For all annual events there is a lovely custom-made trophy or medal for the top three in each gender. Any of our inaugural races are done on a smaller budget and prizes may differ depending on event.

Q. Are Vet Catagories? Yes, the categories are V40, V50, V60, V70. There are no prizes for seniors (18-39) other than youth itself.

Q. Prize Money? Not right now, it is something we would like to look into in the near future once events have become more established, if you are interested in becoming a sponsor please get in touch.
